I will not beat around the bush. We need your money and help, both if possible.
Missing People have supported us relentlessly from the very beginning, in more ways than I can catalogue here. Some of these have been “big” things like publicity campaigns such as the Big Tweet, posters, last year an advert in cinemas to precede a Muse concert streaming the age progressed image. Some of these have been “little” things, like the emails from Jenny (our support worker) without fail on Andrew’s birthday and the anniversary of his disappearance. Some of the things are “background” things, like the online family forum, annual family days, the fact that you know the helpline is always there any day, any time. Some are “up front” things, such as developing the role of the Community Ambassador, the recent “Unmissable” art exhibition and the Carol Services. The telephone counselling service has been helpful for me personally. I cannot list everything here; the charity has undergone constant positive evolution over the years and we are all both grateful and proud to be involved with and cared for by them.
Missing People is a small and relatively young charity, but remains the only national charity devoted to helping the approximately 200,000 people who go missing each year and their families. They manage a vast amount of work for a charity their size and always look for ways to develop and improve upon what they are able to offer. If you can give financially, please do. Statistics show that a small percentage of the UK population give a large amount to charities and a large percentage give nothing. I often think how easy it would be for a million people to take a pound coin out of their pocket and what a massive difference that would make. Would you consider the £3 a month ask on the Find Every Child posters?
Many people are in difficult financial circumstances and if reading this you are struggling financially, would you consider giving for free? Signing up to the Child Rescue Alert scheme costs nothing. Sharing appeals for missing people on social media costs nothing. Could your company, church, social club of any kind consider becoming a poster partner? These things cost little or nothing but they genuinely help real families. Might you feel you have the time and skills to volunteer with Missing People?
